How to Make and Serve Shredded Beef

Shredded pork is a well-known favourite – but we think it’s about time shredded beef was give the spotlight! Find out how to make and serve shredded beef with the tips below, which are adapted from Better Homes & Gardens.

The Best cuts for Shredded Beef

  • Chuck roast
  • Rump roast
  • Brisket
  • Flank
  • Skirt

All of these cuts are inexpensive and require low and slow cooking to get the most out of their flavour and tenderness. This cooking can be done in the oven, grill or slow cooker.

How to Make Shredded Beef

  1. Cook the meat with your favourite ‘low and slow’ method. We recommend that you braise the beef – find out how here.
  2. To shred the beef, place two forks (with their backs facing each other) adjacent to each other on a portion of the meat. Pull the forks in opposite directions, breaking up the meat into shards as you pull. Discard any gristle or fat remaining in the meat. Repeat this process until all the meat is shredded.
